When the end of the month arrives, we are often faced with an electrical bill for our total power usage. But what of individual appliances and the activities associated with them? This application is aimed as a tool for better understanding our own interactions with the appliances we own, and the effect it has on power consumption and therefore the environment as well.
Power usage was monitored by using P3 International's Kill-a-Watt device. Five devices were used across three different weeks to compile Fifteen devices on a more affordable basis. This data was recorded on approximate 12 hour intervals and compiled in an excel spreadsheet. The Power consumption applet, built with Processing, displays this information in a manner to allow several comprehensive views of the recorded data.
